The Early Middle Ages
How English Came To Be
The Anglo Saxon Poem:
An Anglo-Saxon poem is a long narrative poem that is usually passed down through generations and it travels around to different villages. It tells of a hero's accomplishments and usually determines the fate of a nation. Beowulf is a great example of an Anglo-Saxon poem that has a great use of gory image, alliteration, kennings, and other rhetorical devices.
Below is a poem that I have created to try and convey the format of an Anglo-Saxon poem.
It's a twist on one of America's best sellers, Harry Potter. Harry must destroy a creature, who is out to ruin his senior year.

Other Poems Written in the format of an Anglo-Saxon Poem:
-Kristen wrote, "A Blooming Rose" that demonstrates a wonderful use of alliteration, foreshadowing, and gory image.
-Samantha wrote, "Dumbledore the Brave" that demonstrates a beautiful use of alliteration and is uniquely written. Her poem also has a great use of epithets and appositives. |
